After a thorough examination of the snipers' car, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and forensics experts found a number of items the snipers used in their attacks and discovered that modifications had been made to the 1990 Chevy Caprice in order for Malvo and Muhammad to carry out the attacks.
The most prominent modification to the sniper car was a hole cut out of the trunk near the back license plate. ATF agents determined that this was to allow for the rifle barrel to stick out of the trunk and help the shooters remain unseen and make a quick getaway. Agents tested out this theory while examining the car for further evidence.
This spray paint can was used to paint the inside of the trunk of the snipers' car. This kept the light from reflecting inside the trunk, making it nearly impossible for anyone passing by to see Malvo positioned in the trunk of the car.
These walkie-talkies were recovered from the Sniper car and used by Malvo and Muhammad to communicate from the front seat to the trunk of the car. A typical sniper technique is to have one person, known as the spotter, advise on vehicular and foot traffic while the shooter focuses only on the target.
